Mercury Free Dentistry
Mercury Free and Mercury Safe Dentistry
Dr. Marla Wilson has been practicing mercury free dentistry in Indianapolis since 1999 and she safely removes amalgam (silver) fillings based on the recommendations of the International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology (IAOMT).
Our number one concern is about your exposure to mercury and the potential harmful effects it can cause. During the mercury removal process, we follow specific dental protocol to ensure your safety from unnecessary exposure to this heavy metal. Several precautions are taken including:
- A nose mask for breathing oxygen
- A dental air-vacuum system designed to absorb any mercury aerosols circulating within the dental operatories
- High speed suction
- Copious amounts of water
- A rubber dam and/or clean-up device for isolation purposes, slow speed drilling to reduce mercury vapors and to avoid unnecessary friction or heat developing within the tooth that can lead to a pulpitis or permanent nerve damage to the tooth.
Mercury has long been known to be a neurotoxin and can be potentially harmful to some sensitive people. However, many people still have silver/mercury fillings in their mouths. These fillings are not particularly pleasing to the eye, and we know that by unavoidable design, silver/mercury fillings ultimately result in weaker tooth structure. Silver fillings contain 50 percent mercury. They can corrode, leak and cause stains on your teeth and gums. Current independent scientific research shows that mercury vapor, although bound to other metals and fillers, is released during and after placement of mercury-containing dental fillings, as well as during the removal of these fillings. This is why we, along with 51% of all dentists in the United States, no longer use mercury-containing amalgam fillings. Other filling materials have been developed over recent years, including tooth colored fillings, that can easily replace amalgam fillings while not exposing you to mercury vapors or elemental mercury.
If you are interested in finding out more about your options for alternative filling materials or please give us a call at (317) 787-6625 or email us to schedule an appointment.
Marla Wilson DDS is one of only three Indianapolis dentists who are members of International Academy of Oral Medicine & Toxicology, a leading organization dedicated to researching the effects of mercury in dental amalgam fillings.
Ideally, for those who are about to have amalgams removed and replaced, a detoxifying program should be initiated at least 2 weeks before amalgam removal and continued for at least 3 months after the last amalgams are removed. If you have already had your amalgams removed, then start today. The usual length required for body elimination of mercury is 3-6 months.

Had my initial cleaning and digital x-rays taken. The staff each greeted me, shook my hand, introduced herself and went over my dental history, needs and concerns. Dr. Wilson examined my mouth, saw that I needed some improvement in the night guard I brought in and immediately shaved it along the sides so it would be slimmer and fit better. She pointed out problem areas on the colored pictures of each tooth so I would be better informed on the course of action that needs to be taken.
I lost a molar and reluctantly, because of fear of the unknown, decided to have a dental implant. My hesitation was unfounded and Dr. Craig Cooper did the placement of the mechanics. My personal dentist, Dr. Wilson, put on the crown and it fits and looks fabulous, exactly like a real tooth. When I went to the implant specialist, he remarked on how terrific her work looked and how her patients dental work always looked great. That made me feel good, but it made me realize what super hands me and my teeth are in. Thanks, to you, Dr. Wilson. Side-note to Libby in the office; the fingers have it–keep smiling!
Dr. Wilson is our dentist. My last appointment was three months ago. My wife and I see her two or three times a year. We’ve been seeing her for over 15 years. She is a wonderful and fantastic dentist. The office is fantastic; it is really nice. The staff is friendly
I am so impressed with the friendliness, knowledge, kindness, professionalism of this team. They have up-to-date technology and are very cooperative in communicating and showing you pictures of your teeth so that you see what they see and can come to the same conclusions about which paths to take in the process of providing the patient with the best possible dental care. I trust them and so glad that I found them even though I have to drive over 20 miles for a visit. It’s worth it to me to have this kind of peace of mind in knowing they are thorough in their cleanings as well as their assessment of my dental needs. Dr. Wilson is very caring and sharp in her assessment for a plan of action and providing the best care for her patient. She doesn’t stop until she has taken care of every concern. I am in GREAT hands!!
I’ve been a client of Premier Dental Care for 6 years, and will be a customer for life. The way I see it, I could get my teeth cleaned just about anywhere. The reason I make the drive from Morgan County is the people. Marla and her professional staff make the difference. They have taken the time to know me as a person, anticipating my needs and answering questions in addition to their gentle care in state of the art facilities. I couldn’t be more pleased.
I love my new smile! Not only does it look great, but it feels great! My bite has been corrected and the jaw pain I suffered from is gone. I am constantly getting compliments on my smile… even from total strangers!
Dr. Wilson and her team made sure that my treatment was painless and that I was comfortable. Their ongoing care has kept my smile healthy and bright. They are truly skilled professionals that also know how to make a person feel warm and welcome. Premier Dental Care is the best, hands down!
I hadn’t been to the dentist in many years. Her office staff was extremely friendly and very eager to assist me in any way possible. They managed to squeeze me in on short notice. They are very helpful with insurance questions and there are TV’s in the patient rooms as a nice distraction while they’re working on your teeth!
Dr Wilson and her staff are, by far, the best dental office I have ever been to. Everyone I have met is extremely kind, caring, and thoughtful. Every time I am there, I feel like an important person not just another patient. Dr. Wilson and her staff have the highest degree of integrity and I would recommend them to anyone!”
Kind Regards, Jackie
