Serum Biocompatibility Testing

Premier Dental Care suggests patient testing for chemical sensitivity before choosing dental materials used for fillings and dental work.

Some dental materials can cause problems for the chemically sensitive, being the basis for headaches, breathing difficulties, dizziness, and sometimes debilitation illnesses.  One example is mercury amalgam fillings, which are renowned for causing trouble with many dental patients.

It has now come to light that some chemically sensitive people may also be affected by other replacement dental materials used. Biocompatible dentistry is the pursuit of optimal health for all patients using the most compatible, durable and bio-neutral material for the human body.

Our Indianapolis dentist Dr. Marla Wilson suggests using a serum blood specimen to determine what one’s “least reactive” alternative dental material might be.  She uses the expression “least reactive” because any foreign substance introduced into the body will, to some degree, aggravate the immune system. The purpose of the immune system is to ward off substances not naturally found in the body.  The goal in this testing is to find the least reactive dental material possible for you.

This testing is a laboratory screening process which specifically looks for existing systemic sensitivity that can be associated with various bio-materials and restorative products used in dentistry.

The results that come to the doctor are over 30 pages long and indicate each material tested as suitable or not suitable for that patient. The test is done with many different dental products, including composite fillings, crown materials, bridge materials, porcelain dental veneers, denture materials, cements and other products used by a dentist.  Most patients will be found to have some materials that are suitable for them that the dentist can choose from.  Although this does not guarantee to be a completely safe choice, years of clinical experience with this testing has consistently shown such a choice to be vastly superior and preferable over a dentist’s random assumption that each body had the same reactivity to these materials.

CMRT offers the clinician a measure of guidance in determining the treatment plan, and patients a measure of assurance as to the safety and performance of bio-materials. CCRLab is a long time supporter of the IAOMT. http://www.ccrlab.com
